Gianni Masaki Tanaka Portela is a postdoctoral researcher at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He received a full degree in Mathematics from the State University of Pará in 2006 and completed bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Pará in 2007, 2008 and 2015, respectively. He worked as a math teacher in 2008 and, between 2010 and 2012, he worked as an engineer in the Brazilian public service.
He is the author of several scientific articles published in journals, as well as the inventor of several national and international invention patents related to passive devices based on photonic crystals.
In addition, he won the Capes Thesis Award 2016 in the field of Engineering IV, as his doctoral thesis was considered the best in Brazil in that area (considering those defended in 2015).
His current research interests include photonic crystal-based devices such as switches, insulators, circulators, power dividers, and multifunctional devices.
